Hoops for a Cure F.A.Q. Page

What is the Hoops for a Cure Swish-a-thon?
Hoops for a Cure, hosted by Lakers Legend AC Green, is a fun event for the whole family where all ages can shoot free throws to help raise money to fight pediatric brain cancer. To see video from last year’s event, visit fightforbrayden.org. All funds raised during Hoops for a Cure benefits The Brayden Cole Hinck Foundation, whose mission is to financially assist families whose children are undergoing treatment for cancer, fund research for pediatric brain cancer, and inspire others to “Be Like B.”

How many baskets will I (or my son or daughter) shoot?
All players ages 6 and up will shoot 25 free throws. Younger players will shoot from closer to the basket. Players age 5 and younger will shoot 15 free throws on a mini basket.

What height basket will I (or my son or daughter) shoot on?
Basket heights are based on ABYA and Sports Academy rec league rules. If a player is not able to successfully make a basket at their basket’s height, they will be encouraged to move closer.

What do I need to bring?
All players should bring their own basketball with their name on it. If you don’t have a basketball, there will be some to borrow at the event.

What if I’m not very good at basketball?
Hoops for a Cure is for everyone! You do NOT need to play basketball to participate. It’s a fun, community-friendly event, that anyone can take part in. And we promise – everyone will have fun.

Will there be food at the event?
We are excited to have Capriotti’s and Handel’s offering food for purchase at the event in our dedicated Food Court located under the tented area.

What’s the deal with the raffle prizes?
We have some INCREDIBLE raffle prizes this year, and we can’t wait for everyone to see them. All raffle prizes are given away on the night of the event. You must be present to win! After registering for Hoops for a Cure, all participants will receive a link to their fundraising page. The more money you raise, the more raffle tickets you will receive at check-in on the day of the event. Participants will then be able to put their raffle tickets in the bowl(s) of the prize(s) they want to win! Raffle tickets will also be available for sale on the day of the event.

Will there be “winners” of the swish-a-thon?
The top three players who make the most baskets in each age group will receive a prize. Also, the top three fundraisers will receive a prize. ALL players will receive a participant t-shirt, a Be Like B bracelet, a Be Like B sticker, and a bunch of swag from our sponsors when they check-in.

What else can I expect at Hoops for a Cure?
Expect a fun-filled night that everyone will enjoy. Shoot some hoops, make some new friends, and most importantly, help us fight pediatric brain cancer.
